#14. Mysterious Dessert Entities. Oh. What, those come later? Dang.

Music: Unova Route 4 (Winter)

Ah! A resort! I. . . guess Prof. Juniper could wait . . .

Responsible adult!

"The one thing I know? Holes."

Choro Notes: Dig has the user dig underground the first turn then strike on the second. While underground the user is immune to attacks. . . except for Earthquake, Magnitude and Fissure which hit even harder.

A story on the side of an interstate. I love it. <3

This must be the place!

Ah, yeah I've been having that problem too for a few months now . . .

My friend Bianca gets by! She's the cute one you know. I worry about my short smart friend sometimes though. . .

Well good luck you guy with a doomed kid!

Choro Notes: There is that little area outside of the gate that has almost the same encounterable monsters but at a much lower encounter rate. It can take 2-3 times as long to find a wild monster outside for some reason.

That. . . seems . . . like obvious disregard for your hippowdonic oath, doctor.

Oh. . . you sent out a. . . cell baby. Doctor this seems really dangerous for your cell baby.

. . .

Choro Notes: Doctors work the same way as nurses. After you beat the tar out of them they heal your monsters once you talk to them.

Haha! Why would I need medicine when you're right here? :D

Oof, it is really hard to see out here. . .

Choro Notes: Only one monster in the Unova dex evolves with the Fire Stone . . .

Oh! Was this yours? You don't wanna make a house in this little guy. It's full of primal fire-energy or something I've been led to believe!

Dwebble

When Dwebble finds a stone of a suitable size, it secretes a liquid from its mouth to open up a hole to crawl into. This liquid can easily melt holes in hard rocks. If that rock breaks, the Pokémon remains agitated until it locates a replacement.
Choro Notes: Despite being a crab, Dwebble is a bug-type! Not a Water-type! Dwebble have decent defense for a basic monster.
Zorak Notes: It's just like that song by the B-52s!
HulkaMatt Notes: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH these things are fucking awesome. Easily a favorite of mine from this gen. LIL' CUTE CRABS WITH A ROCK FOR A SHELL. WHATS NOT TO LIKE?

Nice. . . . eh?

Was it after the crab?!

Choro Notes: The only reason Whirlwind didn't eject us from battle is Audino's level: Roar and Whirlwind don't work on monsters that are a higher level than the user. Handy.

Sigilyph

Sigilyph never vary the route they fly, because their memories of guarding an ancient city remain steadfast. They use their psychic power to attack enemies that invade their territory.
Choro Notes: Xatu will always be my psychic bird-thing of choice but Sigilyph are pretty cool looking. They repeatedly would show up and just kind of ruin my stuff. They have a fairly low catch rate so they can be annoying to actually capture. Their stats at this point in the game make them pretty nice to use though!
Zorak Notes: Sigilyph is inspired by the Nazca lines, as well as Native American Kachina dolls. He is a weird psychic bird thing.
HulkaMatt Notes: AAAA I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS THING IS. GOOD GOD WHY DO YOU EXIST? (its pretty cool)

Nice! There's even a neat skull-shaped rock beneath them!

. . . I might be lost.

At least there are items hidden beneath pretty much all of the sand. I could survive out here for days easily.

These must be the ruins!

Haha, It's funny I sort of expected this thing to attack me as I got close.

Oh! Ooh! I don't know a lot but isn't quicksand a phenomenon associated with moisture and very wet terrain like swamps and bogs?

". . . "

. . . gotcha.

I don't know, what sort of Pokémon is it? Because if it's something that just vibrates then it could just be for whatever!

Choro Notes: Let's show off Sigilyph!

Choro Notes: Light Screen halves the damage of special attacks for five turns. Reflect, does the same but for physical moves. Handy for the defensively minded!

. . . shit.

Alright then, physical moves!

Ok that's. . . a little better, yeah. Xanadu we should switch you out hon.

Choro Notes: This is a good example of Secret Power's effect changing: on sand the animation becomes more ground-based and has a chance of lowering the target's accuracy.

GOTCHA.

Dag.

Nah, too bored.

Oh! Free fossil!

I like. . . this one!

It looks like a hat!

Seahat!

Choro Notes: If you fall down the quicksand, there's an Elixir hidden in the exact spot you fall.

Oh, whoa. Are these yours?

Choro Notes: Yamask's ability, Mummy, has a neat effect. If you physically hit something with Mummy, your ability gets replaced with Mummy. How scary!

Gotcha! Haha!

. . . ha. . .

. . . ha

. . .

Yamask

Yamask arise from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life. Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry.
Choro Notes: Yamask creep me out. They really do. Like I don't even have anything to say about them, they just weird me out.
Zorak Notes: POKEMON CAN BE DARK SOMETIMES MAYBE.
HulkaMatt Notes: What the FUCK is with this things backstory? I didn't know what the hell this even was until 2 seconds ago. WHAT THE FUCK?

Huh! I wonder why! You seem like you're off to an important job with that get up!

. . . desert madness.

Choro Notes: Crush opponent with ROCKS. Might lower speed.

I really just wanna see the different ways you can beat things up Dig'em, that's really it.

Oh! Samba samba~!

Maractus

Arid regions are their habitat. Maractus move rhythmically, making a sound similar to maracas. It uses an up-tempo song and dance to drive away the bird Pokémon that prey on its flower seeds.
Choro Notes: Look at it! They're little unremarkable cacti. I don't really know what to say. Hella cute though!
Zorak Notes: Hispanic Grass-types represent.
HulkaMatt Notes: Like my great grandfather always told me: a cute cuddly cactus is a dangerous thing.

Choro Notes: Imprison disables any moves the opponent have that Xanadu would have. You can really screw with some gym leaders if you know what you're doing but that's really about it.

Oh man, Oh man I gotta go get this looked at!

I remember!

Please!

Yessss.

Tirtouga

This Pokémon was restored from a fossil. Tirtouga swam skillfully and dove to depths beyond half a mile. About 100 million years ago, these Pokémon swam in oceans. It is thought they also went on land to attack prey.
Choro Notes: Tirtouga has the same typings as both Omanyte and Kabuto, so it's very punchable. On the plus side it's hella tough!
Zorak Notes: Archelon was pretty cool and so is this dude. He has sturdy and that is good.
Hulka Notes: Look, if you don't like turtles you're a fucking punk.
Cows Go Moose named this

Oh, while I'm at it I can use that Fire Stone I found . . .

. . . why do I feel like I just did something absolutely terrible?

Simisear

A flame burns inside Simisear's body. When it gets excited, embers rise from it and it gets hot. Simisear scatters these embers from its head and tail to sear its opponents. It loves sweets because they become energy for the fire burning inside its body.
Zorak Notes: Okay seriously Red, this thing is punchable as fuck.
Choro Notes: I know, I KNOW.
Hulka Notes: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . you are not . . . . Monferno. . .

I feel like I'm forgetting something.

Oh. Oh jeez.

Sorry boss

Pokémon, and I thought about you guys."

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Yes'm.

Keep on' Prof.in' y'all

to send us on a journey."

That's silly.
That's silly.

mom made a request to Professor Juniper."

Prank 'em good! Wait, no. I like having this freedom, never mind.

some Pokémon I haven't yet caught."
Hydrate! It's important! Also do NOT catch the things with the masks. I am serious. Don't. Just. Don't.

Ah he'll be fine.
